[Go to Venezolanos] Overview
The Venezuelan community in Pittsburgh has been growing since the 1980’s when many students came to this area to advance their knowledge in science and arts.
Today our community has diversified and includes students, engineers, architects, artists, doctors, web designers, graphic designers, accountants, veterinarians and musicians; some of whom are part of important local institutions and companies such as the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University, Heinz, Del Monte, Alcoa and Respironics.

Although diverse in nature, Venezuelans in Pittsburgh have felt the need to expand their common culture and traditions to the Pittsburgh community. Our goal is to work with other communities to improve the quality of life for people in the Pittsburgh region through cultural programs.
We love Pittsburgh because of the variety and closeness of its communities, the beauty of its ancient architecture and mainly the warm-hearted of its people. Photo of Simon Bolivar by Johnny Sosa Orchids – by Jorge Karpati

The Coalition also facilitates communication about the safety, efficacy, and use of vaccines within the broad immunization community of patients, parents, health care organizations, and government health agencies. Click here for language specific Vaccine Information Statements (VIS). VIS are information sheets produced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that explain to vaccine recipients, their parents, or their legal representatives both the benefits and risks of a vaccine. Federal law requires that VIS be handed out whenever (before each dose) certain vaccinations are given. Some history of Venezuela Venezuela was discovered at the end of the 15th century by Christopher Columbus, and was first called "Little Venice" because of the similarities of the native houses on the edges of Lake of Maracaibo to the Venetian dwellings that existed during that time. Venezuela is located on the northern coast of South America. It was liberated from the Spanish on 1810 and its Independence is celebrated every 5th of July, one day after the US Independence.
