Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation's largest nonprofit network dedicated to encouraging students to stay in school. CIS helps young people achieve school success by providing them and their families access to personal, accountable, and coordinated services at an educational site.

Vocational and Technical Schools
There are many trade schools in the Southwestern Pennsylvania region. Some are associated with the Intermediate Units of the counties, and some are privately run. They cover a wide range of skills and interests, and many are useful in providing the necessary training for a new career.

Community Education and Lifetime Learning

For those interested in informal, non-credit classes to build upon existing skills or develop new ones, the Pittsburgh region offers many great community-based educational experiences. Whether it is computer skills or crocheting, there is a class available for your interests. Community classes are a great way to meet people and  expand your knowledge, skills and experiences.

The World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh
Through its International Outreach Program, the World Affairs Council's influence extends to almost 200 secondary schools throughout Western Pennsylvania, reaching over 12,000 teachers and students through some 140 different programs each year. The mission of the Council's school outreach program is to help students and teachers keep pace with events and issues in a world that changes faster than the educational materials at their disposal.
