Our mission is to forge cultural, educational, and business relationships between the Greater Pittsburgh Region and the global community through citizen diplomacy.
GlobalPittsburgh is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1959 as the Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors (PCIV). Citizen diplomacy is a concept that every global citizen has the right, even the responsibility, to engage across cultures, and create shared understanding through meaningful person-to-person interactions, “one handshake at a time.”
As a member of the Washington, DC-based Global Ties U.S. (formerly National Council for International Visitors) we are the U.S. State Department’s designated regional service provider for the International Visitor Leadership Program and other government-sponsored international exchange programs.
GlobalPittsburgh has a network of over 500 members, volunteers, and citizen diplomats who ensure that visiting leaders’ and students’ time in the Greater Pittsburgh region provides value to all members of the community.
For the visitors we welcome, we hope to foster ongoing communication and a positive impression of the region that may inspire them to return, to encourage more potential visits by leaders, influencers and students, or to live and work in the region.
