GlobalPittsburgh First Thursdays is a regular monthly night of networking and socializing with different themes and different activities – but always with an international flavor – usually, on the first Thursday of every month. It’s an evening of friends, interesting conversation, and good spirits. Everyone is welcome!
In June, GlobalPittsburgh will be hosting a delegation of eight participants from Egypt, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia who are actively involved in the arts in the areas of music, arts education, theater, comedy, poetry, and graffiti art in a project entitled, “Engaging Youth Through Performing Arts.” The participants have been invited to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. We will also be hosting 12 delegates from the United Kingdom participating in a project “Protecting Sensitive Industries Exchange.” This is the first of the projects offered through the collaboration between the Embassy of the United States in the UK and Global Ties U.S. under the Countering Hostile State Influences Program. We invited them to be our special guests at the event.

GlobalPittsburgh is doing something a little different for our November networking event! We invited two Kyrgyz anti-corruption professionals and ten political activists from Australia to join us. The visitors are participating in two U.S. State Department-sponsored International Visitor Leadership Program entitled, “Investigation and Prosecution of Transnational Organized Crime,” and “Midterm, Election Watch, for Younger Australian Political Party Activists.” The Australian group, in particular, will be eager to talk politics and learn informally what issues are resonating with American voters as they prepare to vote in the midterm elections on November 8.
In partnership with the University of Pittsburgh’s English Language Institute, GlobalPittsburgh is hosting students from Japan who are also invited to attend the event.
The admission is free for GP members and $10 for non-members. If you have a question about renewing your membership, please let me know.
